I think I don't actually consider this as "retirement" - not like someone who has worn himself or herself out completely during a carreer and isn't capable of doing anything else but sitting and watch tv. Well, today I am at Astoria, OR (northwestern most corner of the state) biding a little time until I have to be at Nehalem Bay (Wednesday morning). I was stunned and completely overwhelmed at the sight of all the fallen and broken timber and uprooted trees, which went down as a result of the exceptional storm which hit the coast around here on Dec. 2. It really looks like a tornado hit the area. I came across from Portland to the coast on route 26. About 15 miles from the coast is where I started seeing all the devistation to the forests and areas along the road. I saw a big metal roofed building with a big tree which just bashed it in like a tin can. Oh, my! Glad I wasn't here. THe lady at the RV park where I am tonite, said that she thought here 5th wheel trailer was going to just lift off the ground and be moved somewhere else. I bet she did.
After a couple of days more and I'll settle in for some routine. I'll bet there aren't too many campers this time of the year. Life is good and God is gooder.

The pictures I posted to the photo page were taken on a vacation trip I made this summer (2007) to several state parks. Those shots are from the Washington state park in Ilwaco - just south of Long Beach and about as far south as one can go on the Washington coast. Actually they were just a few selections that I made just so I could get something up on the page. I'll be organizing some more album categories and posting lots more. Keep that in mind.
My last mailing party is behind me. It's nice to get that one over - for several reasons. The weather isn't looking too good for the next few days. I'm hoping to be able to get out of town with out to much difficulty. Gotta' get down to my first park by Wednesday morning. I will!

Pronounce that!
I have put up the page of my 2008 Schedule of Oregon parks volunteering. Eventually, I'll make some comment links about what I'll be doing at these various places, but basically it's just being present on the 5 days of each week that I'm on and giving about 20 hours a week of various chores (probably a lot less in Jan. and Feb.). Such as: cleaning Yurts, firepits, replacing tp rolls, closing doors at night, answering question as best I can, rules informing (not enforcing), etc.
I'm fasting! That is, I'm trying to make spaces in my innards for a fantastic Christmas dinner later today. The beef roast is almost 20 lbs. I'll try not to hurt myself, but there's no chance of running short of food, so I'll probably just do what I always do - CRAM!

It's a beautiful sunny day with the air in the 40s - feels like the 60s when standing in the sun. Grant... if you are reading this - I'm stunned that you could have stumbled on my weblog site so soon. The Internet sure does seem to reduce the bigness of the world.
Christmas dinner of roast cow's fanny tommorrow at sister's place - + a ton of other stuff, of course. It'll be the last big meal with them for a couple of months. I better figure out what all those pot/pan thingies are for - eh?

Sunday Morning - less than a week before climbing to "the other side of the fence." Considering the nature of the weather on the Oregon Coast, the grass should surely be greener - wetter for sure. I think I've tied up just about all the loose ends here in Yakima before heading out. The bikes are stowed and all personal belongings which I can't take on the road in Tallulah, the Motorhome, (not much really) are also stored.
I've been thinking that at some point (months down the road, really) I'll want to bring the car back and take one of the bikes out. The scooter can go without any more efforts, as I have the mount for it and it rides on the back of the MH just fine. But seeing the Goldwing sitting there in the storage unit makes me want to consider getting a small trailer and working it up the carry that. Having either in good weather would be fine and it's just a choice.
It's snowing like crazy this morning. And although the temperature is just near 32 and the weather report is for rain later, I do hope I don't have something like this facing me when I get ready to hit the road in the next few days. As it is I'm leaving myself about three days to get to Nehalem Bay State Park in Oregon - my first hosting assignment. What happens will happen, no matter what happens.
Let it snow.... etc.
